Isolation (First post)

The crux of Holden's difficulties lies in his isolation from others. In your opinion, what extent of Holden's sense of isolation is real, and how much of it is his own perception? In what ways is Holden isolated? Review and list some of his attempts at relieving his isolation. How successful is he? Do Holden's struggles make him more likeable as a character, or not?

Title significance (second post)

J. D. Salinger deliberately selected a title for his novel that would not give the reader any clues as to its content. Similarly, he does not allow blurbs or reviews to be published on the back cover, the way many books do. What do you feel he accomplishes by doing this? How is the title related to the story? What is the meaning of the title? Do you feel this is the best title for the story; conversely, what title would you suggest?
